Parents meet to discuss disappointment in Flint Community Schools

FLINT (WJRT) -

(04/12/14) - A group of about 20 parents met Saturday for the first time to discuss their concerns with the Flint School District.

They're worried about issues like curriculum, growing class sizes and the district's policies on contacting parents when something happens in the classroom.

For many of these parents, the tipping point was an incident last year. A student at Brownell Elementary had their mouth duct-taped by a substitute teacher.

They're hopeful that Saturday's meeting is the beginning of change in the district.

"It brings parents together, getting them more involved in their child's education. We want to encourage our parents to go to your child's school, sit in a classroom, see what's going on. Whatever issues you may have we want to come together and face them together," said Egypt Tramble, co-founder of the Concerned Parents Group.
