SAGINAW (WJRT) -

(04/14/14) - Hometown hero Travis Mills will be telling his incredible story of survival at an event planned for next month in Saginaw.

Nearly two years ago, Mills' life changed forever when he was injured by an IED during his third tour in Afghanistan.

The Vassar resident lost portions of both legs and arms, leaving him one of just five surviving quadruple amputees from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

Covenant Healthcare has asked the Staff Sergeant to share his journey to recovery in honor of Stroke Awareness Month.

The event is free, but space is limited.

It starts at 6 p.m., May 1 at St. Stephen Church.
