Man convicted of killing MSP trooper dies after being removed from life support

MASON COUNTY (WJRT) -

(04/17/14) - The man who was convicted of shooting and killing a Michigan State Police Trooper, has died.

According to the Michigan Department of Corrections, Eric Knysz was removed from life support Thursday morning.

Knysz was recently sentenced to life in prison for shooting and killing Michigan State Police Trooper Paul Butterfield during a traffic stop last fall.

Knysz attempted suicide in his prison cell earlier this week.

Butterfield grew up in Saginaw County's Bridgeport Township.
