Police: Flint homeowner shoots, kills 17-year-old suspected intruder

FLINT (WJRT) -

(04/15/14) - Police confirm a deadly shooting overnight stemmed from a break-in at a home in the 900 block of Bradley.

Seventeen-year-old Chealsey Luster, suspected in the home invasion, was killed.

He was found dead, near a party store on W. Court, about a block and a half away from the home.

Police say three people, believed to have been with the teen, are in custody. No charges have been issued yet.

The homeowner, in his 70s, told officers he awoke to find at least one person inside his westside home.

He got his gun and fired. Police say Luster was on the man's property when shot.

It was the second shooting like it within days.

Last Wednesday, a homeowner on Freeman, on Flint's southside, shot and injured two men he believed were breaking in.

Police say the trio knew each other, but the suspects fired first.

One was originally in critical condition and is still in the hospital.

The other is in the Genesee County Jail and scheduled to be arraigned on charges Tuesday afternoon. Warrants were issued Monday for both men.

The Genesee County Prosecutors Office will also review both cases to determine if the homeowners were justified in shooting.

A man who answered the door at the Bradley home declined comment.
