Byron students should report to class on Wednesday, wind damage will mean changes

SHIAWASSEE COUNTY (WJRT) -

(04/15/14) - Classes will resume Wednesday in Byron after weekend storm damage forced students to stay home for two days.

The majority of the damage involves the gymnasium, used by both the high school and middle school.

Tuesday evening, the superintendent says they'll be replacing the roof and floor of the gym.

Roof-top heating units on the middle school are also in need of repair.

We're told both projects will take the remainder of the academic year and into the summer to complete.

In the meantime, basic clean-up is done and state inspectors have approved building security for the return of students.

When they arrive to campus Wednesday, they'll see temporary walls and fencing around the gym area.

Staff members will be on hand to help with daily routine changes that will be necessary for some students.
