(04/17/14) - You don't ever have a second chance to make a first impression.
That was the motivation behind Thursday's 'Shirt and Tie' program at Southwestern Classical Academy in Flint.
Young men gathered for the opportunity to learn how to tie a tie.
It's a skill they can all take into the real world as they interview for jobs and practice professionalism.
Various male mentors throughout the community lent a hand, and even senior level students played a role.
"It's essential, when you get jobs, make yourself known, you need to make sure you're above the rest, so doing things like this, it always helps out," said senior adviser Akimio Walker.
Organizers say some of the students don't have a male role model in their home, so this event provides a great chance for them to connect with a mentor.
