SVSU baseball coach put on paid administrative leave

(04/18/14) - One of the winningest coaches in NCAA division two baseball is off the job for now.

Saginaw Valley State University says baseball coach Walt Head was put on paid administrative leave on Thursday.

Head has more than 840 wins and was in the middle of his thirty-first year as coach at SVSU.

An internal investigation is underway.

Because it's a personnel matter, the university is not releasing many details on why Head is on leave.

"We realize that this was done in the middle of baseball season, but we thought it was necessary in the interests of the health and welfare of our student athletes," said J.J. Boehm, SVSU Communications.

The team played a doubleheader Friday, with an assistant coach leading the program for now.
