Race for governor's office heats up

Posted: Updated:

(04/18/14) -  The race for the governor's office is heating up.

This week, two candidates officially entered the race - Incumbent Gov. Republican Rick Snyder and Democrat Mark Schauer turned in their petitions to run.

Mark Schauer made his Michigan gubernatorial campaign official on Friday. He was joined by supporters as he turned in about 27,000 signatures from all 83 counties.

Thursday, Gov. Snyder filed his petitions for re-election.

Snyder has been leading in most polls from the beginning, but political analyst Paul Rozycki says Schauer is closing the gap.

"You still got to give the odds to Snyder, but Schauer is coming on," he said.
