Neighbor wakes family of five, saving them from house fire

MONTROSE (WJRT) - (04/19/14) - Quick action by a neighbor may have saved five lives early Saturday morning.

A family was sleeping inside their Montrose home around midnight when they heard a loud sound.

"I went to bed and come midnight, someone came pounding on my door," said Sean Gilbert, the homeowner.

Holly Martin, a neighbor who had just come home from work, was pounding at the door. "I just pounded as loud as I could and I yelled as loud as I could, until he hollered out 'hey what is the matter, what is going on?' and I said, 'Your house is on fire!'"

Now Martin is being called a hero for helping the Gilbert family get out of their home.

The Montrose Fire Department says about 50-70 percent of the Gilbert's home is destroyed. They can not stay there Saturday night, but thanks to Martin, the whole family made it out safely.

"The pounding rattled the whole house, it woke everybody up. She probably saved all our lives," Gilbert said.
