Friends of the Flint River trail to host annual cleanup this weekend

Posted: Updated:
(04/23/14) - You can help with a little spring cleaning in Mid-Michigan this weekend.

Friends of the Flint River Trail are hosting their annual cleanup this Saturday from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

The idea is to clean up the trash that has accumulated over the winter.

Volunteers who want to help out should meet at the Vietnam Veterans Park on James P. Cole Blvd for assignments and trash bags.

Organizers say, over the years, they have noticed a real difference along the trail.

"We used to find refrigerators, car engines, all kinds of big stuff, currently however the big thing other than tires is styrofoam and plastic water bottles, so it's really made a big difference," said Jack Minore, of Friends of the Flint River Trail.

A free lunch will be provided after the cleanup.
