Trio charged with child abuse, following viral Facebook video, head to circuit court

Posted: Updated:
(04/23/14) - The trio charged with child abuse, following that viral video posted to Facebook, will now go to trial or at least, have more time to explore plea options.

They were briefly back in court late Wednesday afternoon.

All three, Uteas Taylor, Stefan Felton and the mother of the child at the center of this case, who we are not naming to protect his identity, waived their right to have a preliminary exam. The hearing would have included testimony which would have determined if there was enough evidence to send them to trial.

Taylor's attorney indicated they were waiving over to allow for further negotiations in circuit court.

Flint Police have said Taylor is not biologically related to the 11-year-old boy and is the one seen striking him, with a belt, dozens and dozens of times.

Investigators say Felton, her boyfriend, recorded it.

The boy's mother was the one seen slapping him in the face, according to police.

The adults seem to be upset with how the child had been acting, including what he posted about himself on his Facebook profile.

The video was posted to his Facebook page earlier this month. Child Protective Services was contacted and the agency, along with Flint Police, quickly began investigating.

Each is charged with conspiracy to commit third-degree child abuse, third-degree child abuse and third-degree child abuse committed in the presence of another child.

You can see a baby in the video and in clear view of what was happening.

All three remain in jail.
