(04/23/14) - There is a brand new weapon in the battle against the bulge, and it is available right here in Mid-Michigan. It is called I-lipo, but it is not the same as liposcution. There is no cutting or jabbing, just a little laser fat blasting.
The folks at Ladies First Healthcare, a Flint obstetrics and gynecology clinic, first saw I-lipo on one of those TV doctor shows and wanted to check it out.
"The results were awesome, even after the first treatment we had some of our staff members undergo the treatment," says Dr. Dr. Saquib M. Ahmad.
Amanda Johnson agrees, "the first treatment, you definitely notice a big loss. "
Amanda is half way through with her quest to lose a little around her middle, "pretty much the little belly pouch and muffin top type area."
Complete results require eight, 20 minute treatments over the course of a month, which Amanda says is just fine with her, "it's so relaxing, it's a little warming, but not even close to as hot as a tanning bed or anything."
That warmth comes from the lasers used to penetrate beneath the skin and cause cells to open up and release fat into the lymphatic system.
Once that is done, the only catch is, you have to do at least 20 minutes of exercise within two hours after each treatment, says Dr. Ahmad, "so you want to burn off those calories you just released from those fat cells, so they don't go back in."
The procedure can be done on just about any body part; it is not for everyone. There are some restrictions, and if you have a lot of fat to get rid of, I-lipo may not be for you, Amanda says, "it's for those stubborn spots. Like, you could do sit-ups all day and you are never get rid of that one little pooch."
There are other laser lipo treatments out there but, Dr. Ahmad points out, i-lipo is different, "this is the only one FDA approved! Rest of them are not FDA approved."
Be warned, the fat will come back, if you overeat and do not keep up with exercise. The full cost for I-lipo is around $1,800 at Ladies First Healthcare in Flint. For more information, visit them at http://ladiesfirsthealthcare.com/
If you are thinking about blasting fat the good, old-fashioned way - but don't know where to start - perfect timing! Wednesday, we are starting something new in Health Source, and it is very Pinteresting!
I came across the 30 day ab challenge on Pinterest, and decided to give it a try. I will post updates of my results on Facebook, and I want you to join in. We can keep each other motivated for the next 30 days! I started today, and it took me less than five minutes. I really could have done the workout at work, if I was pressed for time. Sure, my co-workers might laugh and make fun of me, but that is OK.
