Flint YMCA Powerlifting competition to be held Saturday
(04/24/14) - They have some of the biggest muscles in Mid-Michigan - if not the entire state.
"It's too much muscle in here. We need to let the air out of some of it, but we're not going to do that," said Fuller Dee, YMCA Powerlifter.
The Flint YMCA Powerlifting team is in all its sweaty glory after becoming state champs. Earlier this month, they earned the honor by finishing in first place at the American Drug Free Powerlifting Federation competition in Lansing.
"It ain't been done here in 30 years, and we did it, we beat all them guys out there. We ain't no joke here," said Othel Walker, YMCA Powerlifter.
Now that they've already conquered the state of Michigan, the guys and girls are preparing for something even bigger.
"Nationals. We on the way. Superwoman. I'm looking forward to it," said Keisha Glover, YMCA Powerlifter.
As for the team, it's made up of powerlifters ranging in age from 19-71.
"If you want to live longer, work out. It keeps your heart right, and this place keeps people out of trouble," Walker said.
There might be a little trouble for visiting power lifers on Saturday afternoon. The team is hosting an open event, with proceeds going toward the YMCA's Partners with Youth Campaign.
"I'm challenging any 70 to 75 year old to come down here to the YMCA, downtown, Flint, Michigan. Come down here and challenge the Silverback, because I'm really going against myself now," said Ed Driver, YMCA Powerlifter.
