City of Flint prepares for Friday water switch

Posted: Updated:
FLINT (WJRT) - (04/24/14) - Friday will be a historic day as the city of Flint switches to a new water supply for the first time in nearly 50 years.

Up until now, the city has used the Detroit water system. On Friday, the city will officially begin using treated water from the Flint River instead.

It's all part of the city's effort to be part of the new KWA Pipeline project that will eventually pump water to residents from Lake Huron. The KWA Pipeline project will take a few years to complete. Until then the Flint River water will be used until the project is ready to go.
