Clio Board of Education puts superintendent on paid leave, votes to hire new superintendent

Posted: Updated:
(04/30/14) - Clio Area Schools Board of Education President Mary Ann Dipzinski confirms Superintendent Dr. James Tenbusch is on paid, administrative leave pending future board action to place him elsewhere in the district. He has been with the district since late spring of 2011.

In an emailed statement, Dipzinski said board members approved three resolutions, Tuesday's meeting, including one placing Dr. Tenbusch on leave and one to hire Fletcher Spears III as the new superintendent of schools. Spears previously served Clio Area Schools as assistant superintendent for both curriculum and business affairs.

The board also agreed to not renew the contract of its business manager, the statement said, who had previously been placed on administrative leave.

"The Clio Area Schools Board of Education is anxious to move forward and maintain our focus on student achievement," Dipzinski said. "We believe the action we took is a positive step in that direction."

Dipzinski did not immediately respond when why the changes were made.

ABC12 was unable to reach Dr. Tenbusch for comment. He came to the district from Round Lake School District, in the Chicago area, according to the district's website. He had been an Illinois school district superintendent for 15 years.

"I heard it first thing this morning," said Parent Jenny Connor. "I dropped my son off at school and they had told me that the superintendent was placed on administrative leave.  The focus needs to be put back on the kids. It needs to be put back on the kids, into the teacher's classrooms so they can get their job done."
