FLINT (WJRT) - (05/01/14) - Thursday, Mott Community College celebrated May Day.

May Day is know as International Workers' Day.

It commemorates the social and economic achievement of the workers and the international labor movement.

Thursday's ceremony at Mott featured a tribute to Frances Cleaves, a local labor activist.

May Day has its origins in the Eight Day Movement, which advocated eight hours for work, among other things.

"This is what May Day is all about, the victory of the eight hour day, eight work, eight rest and eight hours recreation," said Claire McClinton, May Day organizer.
