FLINT (WJRT) -
(05/01/14) - Flint's emergency manager, Darnell Earley, is proposing making cuts to public safety.

He made the announcement Wednesday while presenting his budget.

Now, some residents want to know, who's going to pick up the slack, if that happens.

Genesee County Commissioners Brenda Clack and Omar Sims hosted a town hall meeting Thursday night called "Surviving in a Changing Neighborhood."

The meeting was to inform residents about future neighbor developments and to answer concerns about crime, blight and caring for their community.

Clack suggests surrounding communities should step in to provide a safety net for families living in areas that are shrinking, especially when it comes to providing emergency services.

"When it comes to fire, we have to depend on the neighboring townships to assist us and the state police will have to assist us more than they did in the past" Clack said.
