SAGINAW COUNTY (WJRT) -
(05/02/14) - Saginaw County Sheriff's investigators are working to figure out who shot and killed an Albee Township man.
Fifty-two-year-old Scott Humphrey's body was found in his home on Fry Road, Wednesday night.
"We are treating it as a homicide," said Bill Federspiel, Saginaw County sheriff.
Humphrey's death is a bit of a mystery right now. The man who ran a carpet cleaning business was found in his home, after a friend who hadn't seen him for a few days called 911.
"Saginaw County Sheriff's Office deputies responded, found a man down," Federspiel said.
Federspiel says whoever killed Humphrey didn't force their way into the home.
"Doesn't appear to be a robbery situation, we believe it occurred there at the scene in Albee Township, we have no suspects at the time, so we are asking the public for help," he said.
Brenda Meyer lives across the street from the crime scene.
"I've talked to him a couple of times, he came over here, his house had been broken into, and he just asked if I had seen anything," she said.
She says she hadn't seen him for several days. Meyer says investigators told her Thursday that a cause of death had not been determined, but they were looking at the possibility that wounds on Humphrey's body were caused by gunshots.
An autopsy later determined that Humphrey in fact had been shot to death.
"We are trying to track down suspects, we want to make sure we have a clean investigation," Federspiel said.
Meyer has been locking her doors for the last few years, and that will not change.
"It is scary, and he said 'keep your doors locked and just keep your eyes on things,'" she said.
The sheriff says to call a local police department if you have any information on this case, and you can always call Crime Stoppers at 800-877-JAIL.
