House catches fire in Burton while mother, son are home

BURTON (WJRT) - (05/04/14) - A mother and son were inside a home when it caught fire just before 1 p.m. Sunday. The house is located on Morrish Street near Lippincott Blvd in the city of Burton.

Burton firefighters say the flames looked to be coming from the back of the house, but the smoke and fire engulfed the entire residence. Firefighters say it looks like the house is a total loss.

Jackie Blundell, the homeowner, says her son woke her up when he smelled smoke. He was able to get his mom and the family dog out of the house, but the home was destroyed.

Blundell tells ABC12 that she is "just numb," after the heartbreak she has gone through recently. Her husband passed away just a few months ago.

"It was bad enough with my husband, now all of our memories and mementoes and all that gone too, matter of fact, he is in there and he is probably gone too," she said.

There were no injuries immediately reported. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
