GRAND BLANC (WJRT) -
(05/05/14) - The Back to the Bricks organization had a problem to solve, but it was a good problem to have.
The crowds at the Friday night concerts were getting too big.
Organizers looked all around Flint, but couldn't find an area that could handle thousands of people, so they're going to move the concert to the GM property in Grand Blanc.
They're also bringing back a crowd favorite, Flash Cadillac, which performed at Back to the Bricks in 2010.
GM's former Weld Tool Center was chosen because of the large, grassy area where a stage could be set up and music lovers could bring their lawn chairs to enjoy Flash Cadillac.
Also performing with Flash Cadillac will be the Flint Symphony Orchestra.
The concert will be Friday, Aug. 15, starting at 7 p.m. and will be a family-oriented event. This special event is part of the Music in the Parks concert series.
There will be no smoking or alcohol allowed on the property, but there will be a large food tent for sit-down dining. A number of vendors will provide all kinds of food and soft drinks.
Between 10,000 and 15,000 people are expected to attend.
Saginaw Street, where the GM property is located, is already a part of the Back to the Bricks Cruise. Organizers began looking for a bigger location after last year's concert in downtown Flint.
"This was necessitated by the large crowds that the concert had drawn over the past years. The venue keeps getting more and more and more people," said Al Hatch, Back to the Bricks chairman.
"All the major car shows are on grass. That's just a huge, grassy area there. And the classic cars will be parked on the grass, looking toward the stage," said Steve Hobson, of the Back to the Bricks committee.
