Fenton community mourning death of fourth grade teacher

Posted: Updated:
FLINT (WJRT) - (05/06/14) -  A Mid-Michigan school district is mourning the unexpected loss of a well-loved teacher.

We spoke with the Fenton Board of Education President. He tells us Kevin Collins died unexpectedly.

The district learned this Monday evening. Collins was with the Fenton district for 15 years. He taught fourth grade at North Road Elementary.

The board president says this happened suddenly - and losing him is a huge loss for students and staff.

"It's not only a loss for the district, but a loss for the community, for the kids," School Board President Lynn Hopper said. "The kids loved him, he was an excellent teacher, you couldn't have asked for a better individual."

Grief counselors will be available to students and staff.
