Flint to revisit water, sewer rate talks

Posted: Updated:
FLINT (WJRT) - (05/06/14) - If you live in Flint, the city's proposed budget could have a big impact on your water rates and impact public safety.

Emergency Manager Darnell Earley is proposing a balanced budget that includes raising water rates 6.5 percent next year.

His plan also calls for 36 fewer police department positions by leaving vacancies unfilled and attrition. Nineteen firefighting jobs are also on the line.

City council is holding four budget hearings to talk about each city department individually.

Tuesday night, they discussed public works, but had to postpone the water and sewer rate discussion.

They could talk about water rates at the May 19 meeting.
