Arson arrest made in fire at group home

Posted: Updated:
FLINT (WJRT) - (05/14/14) - According to the Flint Police Department, 42-year-old Fred Wesley was arrested and arraigned for 1st degree arson for setting a fire in the 1200 block of Church Street on May 7.

The fire started around 6:15 p.m. in a group home located on the corner of Church Street and Seventh Street in the city of Flint.

Firefighters believe the fire started on the third floor of the home. Flint Fire Department's battalion chief believes it started in a mattress. Firefighters were spotted tossing charred mattresses out of the third story.

The quick response from the fire department prevented the fire from spreading further into the home. Despite their quick actions, the 13 residents staying in the home were unable to stay there the night of the fire. They were transferred to a home in Lapeer.

No injuries were reported.
