City of Flint releases details of their tree and debris removal plan

FLINT (WJRT) - The following is a press released from the City of Flint:

(05/08/14) - The City of Flint wants to inform residents of the options available to them for the removal of trees, limbs and branches from their yards.  Due to this year’s severe winter weather, there are still many tree limbs and branches that need to be removed throughout the city.  For this reason, the City of Flint is partnering with private businesses to make the following resources available to its residents.

As part of the regular weekly brush pickups that occur in the city in conjunction with normal garbage day pickup, residents can bundle sticks less than 2 inches thick and less than 4 feet long with rope or twine to set curbside for disposal.  Through the city’s partnership with Republic Services, up to 20 of these bundles weighing less than 50 lbs. each can be set curbside each week.  In addition, between May 19 and May 23 there will be unlimited bundled brush and lawn debris pickup as part of Love Your City Month.  For unlimited brush pickup, all bundled and bagged debris must be curbside by Monday, May 19 at 7am. Normal garbage day pickup will not be affected.

For trees and large limbs that are in the public right of way (between the street and sidewalk), City of Flint street crews are being deployed in neighborhoods to perform wood chipping and removal of the debris.  Trees that have fallen in the right of way or in the street should be reported to the City of Flint Street Maintenance Department by calling 810-766-7343. Trees and limbs on private property are the responsibility of the homeowner to remove; however, if homeowners can get the limbs to the public right-of-way city crews will dispose of them.

The City of Flint has also partnered with two area businesses to offer wood disposal for residents at no cost.  Great Lakes Tree Experts Inc. and Country Oaks Landscaping Supply will allow free drop offs of logs, stumps and large limbs for recycling at the following locations and times:

3397 Warehouse Drive, Burton (take Joyce St. off of Dort between Bristol and Hemphill).
