FLINT (WJRT) -
(05/09/14) -  ABC12 was along for the ride as Flint Police took a proactive approach to tackling crime.

Friday night, officers knocked on doors and talked to residents all to help clean up neighborhoods.

Last week, we told about Operation Inside-Out - a new initiative that takes officers usually assigned to inside administrative jobs and puts them on the street.

Friday, Flint PD rolled out phase two.

ABC12 rode along with Sgt. Jason Groulx  and a team of Flint police officers as they patrolled three housing units in Flint.

They talked to residents, listening to their concerns about everything from criminal activity to missing keys.

"We are making contact with residents, trying to identify those problems that they may be having," said Sgt. Jason Groulx.

This part of the initiative is to build better community relations.

At each stop, the officers heard plenty of thank you's, but what they really want to hear are tips to catch criminals and solve crimes.

"We are one part of it, the citizens have information, they know more than we do in a lot of instances they see it first hand," Groulx said.
