WASHINGTON, D.C. (WJRT) - Rep. Dan Kildee (D-MI) is encouraging his constituents to grab their phones and snap picture of their favorite part of the 5th Congressional district.

“I'm proud of the district that I represent and I want to show it off,” Kildee said.

Track: So Michigan Congressman Dan Kildee took to social media, and launched a new Instagram competition, inviting people to share their favorite pictures from around the fifth district as part of the “Photos of the Fifth” competition.

“We can share images of our really interesting and diverse district,” Kildee said. “Not just with one another, but with people from around the country.”

He kicked off the competition by sharing a photo of himself at 9 years old.

“I was a little embarrassed that there was a picture of me of a 9-year-old boy that was the first picture to go out,” he said. “But it was a way to try to say, look, give us your most candid pictures of the district.”

Kildee said the response has been overwhelming so far and he wants the people of the fifth district of Michigan to share any photo they see fit – showing off the area in interesting and unique ways.

Kildee said they can share pictures of anything, including any events that are happening, a beautiful scene, farm land and spring planting.

If you don't have an Instagram, you can still participate – just email your pictures to photosofthefifth@mail.house.gov with the subject line “Photos of the Fifth.”
