Families of murdered Flint men plead for tips on the 15 year anniversary of their deaths

FLINT (WJRT) - (05/12/14) - The families of two Flint men, murdered 15 years ago Monday, say they finally feel like progress, even if small, is being made in the investigation.

But they still need your help. They need information and know someone has it.

Forty-year-old David Vincent and 23-year-old David Compeau were found beaten and dead when firefighters responded to a house fire at the home on Jane Avenue, May 12, 1999.

"I was a junior in high school and still remember that day and getting called down to the office thinking I was in trouble for something," said Vincent's daughter, Stacie Altz. "That day was 15 years ago today."

Altz teared up talking about her dad not being able to see his three kids graduate. He didn't get to see her go on to college, a first for the family, or her wedding or his grandchildren.

"Fifteen years later and this murderer is still on the loose," she said.

"I've heard a lot of stories about the life he was going to lead," said David Compeau's brother-in-law, Andrew Spiece.

"He still had a long life to lead," he said. "He was 23."

The families say both men loved playing the guitar. The older David was teaching the younger one.

Vincent and Compeau lived together in the home they died in.

Flint Police Sergeant Greg Hosmer says a third man, the homeowner who was there that night, is the one who called 911 and is considered a person of interest.

"Please come forward. There's someone out there who knows exactly what happened," Spiece said. "Let the Davids rest in peace."

Crime Stoppers of Michigan is offering a cash reward of $2,500 for information that helps lead to an arrest. Call 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
