Lawsuit involving high Flint water rates is moving forward

Posted: Updated:
FLINT (WJRT) - (05/13/14) - A lawsuit involving high Flint water rates is moving forward.

City Council President Scott Kincaid tells ABC12 his attorney filed in federal court, Monday.

They think water rate hikes - made by former Emergency Manager Mike Brown -  were illegal.

Kincaid says Brown raised water rates twice in one year, and their ordinance only calls for one rate increase.

It ended up being a 100 percent hike.

They're hoping for a federal court ruling on the issue.

A spokesman for the city of Flint will only say they do not comment on pending litigation.
