Flint City Council rejects EM's water proposal

FLINT (WJRT) - (05/19/14) - Flint City Council members have rejected the Emergency Manager's proposal to sell a portion of the city's water pipeline.

Emergency Manager Darnell Earley says he's looking forward to seeing the council's alternative plan for handling the pipeline.

Flint City Councilman Sheldon Neely says the council will try to negotiate a better deal with the county.

Genesee County is offering Flint $3.9 million for a nine mile stretch of pipeline the county could use to get water from Lake Huron.

Earley says the money generated from the sale could help the city manage its debt.

Council will revisit the proposal Wednesday.
