Michigan road funding compared to other states

Posted: Updated:
MICHIGAN (WJRT) - (05/20/14) - When it comes to money for roads, Michigan has ranked near the bottom in investment for the past 50 years.

According to MDOT, Michigan spends about $154 per person on roads.

In Ohio, that number is $214 per person. That brings in an extra billion dollars in funding a year.

In Indiana, road investment comes in at $289 per capita. In Wisconsin, it's $302 a person.

Some of those states do get money from toll roads - but like Michigan - the majority of their funding comes from fuel taxes and registration fees.
