Portion of I-75 sees flooding, closures for second time in about one week

Posted: Updated:
GENESEE COUNTY (WJRT) - (05/21/14) - The heavy rain some of us saw overnight caused problems on I-75 in Genesee County.

We're talking about I-75 in Flint Township around the Miller Road area.

The expressway flooded after about an inch of rain, in about an hour, around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.

It closed in both directions for nearly an hour until pumps could clear the water.

It was the second time that stretch closed, because of flooding, in just about one week.

It was also shut down Tuesday, May 13, in the early afternoon, after heavy rain and then flooding.

There was a larger stretch, in that same area, impacted last week. The Michigan Department of Transportation is responsible for that stretch.

Spokeswoman Anita Richardson says all the facilities are working, but couldn't keep up with the volume of water we saw.

Richardson said it is a spot that floods frequently after heavy rain.
