(05/21/14) - Another round of pink slips will soon be in the mail for teachers in the Flint school district.
Wednesday, the district voted to send out layoff notices to 91 teachers.

Every year these pink slips go out. Some teachers get called back, others don't.

Now, the waiting game begins.

"It's stressful, it's very stressful", say UTF president Ethel Johnson.

Johnson knows exactly what Flint teachers are going through. She's been there herself.
"Up until a few years ago, I was pinked slipped ever year," she said.

On Wednesday,  the Flint school board voted to pink slip 91 teachers.

Cutting the teachers could save money while helping to close the district's nearly $10 million deficit.

"Hopefully, some of them will be called back before June, at the next meeting June 4, so they won't have to go through their summer without insurance which is a big deal for us," Johnson said.

Interim Superintendent Larry Watkins says what determines how many teachers are called back is how many students come back in the fall.

"It depends on what our enrollment is in the fall, if we work hard to reach our goal on retaining and reclaiming students hopefully we will be able to call staff back to work," he said.

Watkins says the pink slips will start going out on Thursday.
