CORUNNA (WJRT) - (05/22/14) - The Shiawassee County Health Department is asking people to avoid contact with the Shiawassee River until further notice.

The health department says 130,000 gallons of wastewater was discharged from the Corunna Department of Public Works' equalization tank into the Shiawassee River, Wednesday.

The sewage overflow was a result of heavy rain.

The health department is also asking people to use caution when traveling in low lying areas, because water may be over the road.
