Semi truck hits a building missing a receptionist inside

Posted: Updated:
FENTON (WJRT) - (05/22/14) - A semi-truck hits a building narrowly missing a receptionist inside. It happened Thursday morning in Fenton.

At this hour, that truck driver is in the hospital in intensive care.

Fenton police were called out to Rockman and Sons Publishing on Fenway Drive just before noon. When they got there, it looked like the 77-year-old driver from C&J Trucking was having a heart attack.

That's when an officer started CPR on him.

Witnesses say the driver and his grandson were picking up a delivery in the area. They pulled into the next lot to turn around.

As the driver was trying to back the truck up to straighten it out, he started driving forward and hit the building.

Once he hit the building, the grandson ran over, opened the door and found his grandfather was unconscious. Office workers were inside when this happened.

"I saw the gentleman in the cab, he didn't look so good and that's when I realized he was going to hit the building and he did and we started screaming and everybody in the office came up front, the truck was stuck in gear so it kept ramming and ramming and ramming into the awning and that was probably the most craziest part about it, I thought it was going to come down," said Kristina Rilett, the receptionist.

No one inside the building was hurt.

Inspectors with the city of Fenton came out to evaluate the building. An engineer will also take a look.
