Chrysler revved up about new 2015 model hitting showrooms

Posted: Updated:
FENTON (WJRT) - (05/22/14) - Five years ago, Chrysler was preparing to file for bankruptcy protection.

The company made national headlines with its financial recovery, and dealerships are now happy to see Chrysler back in the spotlight for its vehicles.

One of them is the new 2015 Chrysler 200, which is starting to arrive in dealer showrooms.

Like many dealers, Hall Chrysler in Fenton saw plenty of ups and downs in the last five years. Jim Hall remembers the scary financial situation in 2009, but he says Chrysler is stronger now that it has merged with Fiat.

"I just think the products get significantly better. The features, the reliability," said Jim Hall, owner of Hall Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram.

As one example, Hall points to the 2015 Chrysler 200.

"It's bigger, it's got more interior room, the car is a dream to drive," Hall said.

Hall says his customers appreciate the Michigan connection -  the 200 is assembled in Sterling Heights and the design work was completed in Auburn Hills.

"People feel comfortable with the fact that it's made in America, made in Michigan, that it's supporting the local economy," Hall said.

A sales rep showed off the 200 during a test drive. There is no transmission lever to put the car in gear. Instead, you dial in your selection. The midsize car is surprisingly quiet.

"They've done a lot with sound deadening technology; the door, the engine panels and engine compartment," said Joshua Cross, Hall Chrysler sales consultant.

Prices for the 200 start in the mid-$20,000 range. Fuel economy can be as high as 36 miles per gallon. It also comes with a feature that should get some attention from Michiganders.

"All-wheel drive is a popular option, especially with the winter we just went through," Cross said.

Sterling Heights assembly is now turning out this newest Chrysler at full production.

Hall Chrysler is celebrating its anniversary through the end of the month.
