Governor signs legislation to raise the state's minimum wage

Posted: Updated:
MICHIGAN (WJRT) - (05/27/14) - Michigan's Republican Gov. Rick Snyder has signed legislation that gradually increases the state's minimum wage to $9.25 an hour by the year 2018.

The current hourly wage is $7.40.

The bill would also raise pay for tipped workers to $3.50 from $2.65.

The new law includes a provision requiring the minimum wage to grow with inflation once it hits $9.25 an hour.

This will stop a Democratic-backed ballot initiative to raise the wage to $10.10 an hour.
