"Made in Michigan" company to give out new award

Posted: Updated:
MEMPHIS (WJRT) - (05/30/14) - A new tradition starts Friday in Mid-Michigan.

G5 Outdoors, a company we've featured in our Made in Michigan series, is sponsoring the first-ever "Big Buck Archery Cup", and a brand-new bow. They've teamed up with MIBUCKPOLE for the award.

G5 says the cup weighs about 40 pounds, and describes the new award as the "Stanley Cup of Michigan deer hunting".

It's going to Scott Vogt from Jackson County, who used a bow to harvest his trophy buck in the 2013 archery season.

His buck scores 175 2/8, according to Commemorative Bucks of Michigan, the state's official big game record keeper.

If you'd like to be part of the celebration, it starts at 1:30 p.m. at G5's Memphis headquarters, located at 34775 Potter Street.

The trophy will be given to a new archer each year.

In addition to the cup, Vogt will take home a Prime Alloy bow and accessories from G5.
