2014 Special Olympics Michigan State Summer Games begin

MOUNT PLEASANT (WJRT) - (05/30/14) - More than 5,000 people are in Mount Pleasant for the 2014 Special Olympics Michigan State Summer Games.

The games kicked off Thursday night with an opening ceremony that included a parade led by bag pipers, a torch run with Byron City Police Chief Tom Sampey and a musical performance.

Friday's competition started at 8 a.m. at Central Michigan University, and goes until 5 p.m.

Athletes will compete in the final round of games Saturday 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
