Large fire destroys King Lumber in Bay County

Posted: Updated:
MONITOR TOWNSHIP (WJRT) - (06/01/14) - A Bay County fire destroyed King Lumber in Monitor Township late Saturday night.

The fire started around 10:30 p.m. Seven fire stations responded to the fire. They used three aerial trucks, and even called an excavator to spray underneath the lumber. Firefighters were on scene until 5:00 a.m. Sunday morning fighting the flames.

According to the Monitor Township Fire Department, the 80 feet by 200 feet building is a total loss, including most of the lumber that was inside.

"It's all family owned, it's my cousin that owns it," said Timothy Deshano, who works as a truck driver with King Lumber.

Deshano said he was working earlier on Saturday. He's grateful that he wasn't inside the building when it caught on fire.

Cody LeTourneau lives across the street. When he saw the flames, he called 911.

"Right when I was on the phone, from the end of the building just engulfed in flames in a matter of seconds, it was down to the end," he said.

Nobody was hurt in the fire. The cause is still under investigation.
