ALMA (WJRT) -
(06/02/14) - The Alma Police Department and the Salem PD in Oregon need your help solving a cold case from 1975.
The man pictured identified himself, in the '70s, as Thomas Charles Hanson.
He's accused of setting a fire that killed two people at the Bligh Hotel in Salem, Oregon.
The man claimed to be from Alma, but officers have never been able to find a man with that name from Alma. It appears the name, date of birth, and social security numbers given were false.
The photo was taken on the date of his preliminary interview. He was supposed to return to the department later that week, but never showed.
According to a press release from the Alma Police Department, "Hanson initially told investigators that he had arrived in Salem only a week before the fire from Alma, Michigan. Hanson stated that he was raised in Alma and lived here until enlisting in the Army and was sent to Vietnam. He claimed to be a ranger and that while he was in service, his wife and child were killed in a car accident in the Alma area."
Investigators say he left Salem on June 17, 1975.
If you know who this person is or have any information, please contact the Alma Police Department or Detective Jim Miller of the Salem Oregon Police Department Cold Case Unit at 503-540-2348.
