Man sentenced one year probation tied to fake CIA badge at movie theater

GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP (WJRT) - (06/04/14) - The man, who carried a loaded gun and wore body army while seeing a movie at the NCG Trillium Theater, in Grand Blanc Township, has been sentenced to one year probation for possessing a fake CIA badge.

At sentencing, in federal court, Wednesday, the prosecutor asked for five years probation.

Police arrested Cassidy Delavergne in July 2013.

His attorney says he wore the badge around his neck because he was watching the movie "Red 2," about a retired federal agent and his team.

Delavergne had a permit to carry a concealed weapon and was not charged with a gun crime.

Delavergne can't own a gun while on probation and even after that, can't take one out of his home.

He also must continue with counseling.

"I think what he's most regretful for is that he caused fear for a lot of people. I don't think that was ever his intention," said Delavergne's attorney Jeff Clothier. "I think he wore the badge, basically, because he wanted to be somebody he wasn't. That also imposed a lot of fear in other people at the theater and so that's what he's really regretful about. I have no concern that he won't successfully complete probation and go on and live a successful life."
