FLINT (WJRT) -
(06/05/14) - After what he's overcome, Isaiah Struck deserves to do some celebrating.
It's sure to be a whirlwind year for the winner of Speedway's Battle of the Brave contest.
Thursday, the 7 year old is saying a big "thank you" to team Isaiah. Their support helped earn him first place in the national contest.
Donning his cape and mask, and accompanied by his superhero friend, Isaiah walked the halls of Hurley Children's Hospital, personally thanking the nurses and hospital staff who have been there for him.
"We didn't know if he was going to live, we didn't know if he was going to walk. He surprised the nurses, he surprised the doctors and just to be able to come back and see all of the people that were there for him," said Robert Struck, Isaiah's dad.
Isaiah shares a special bond with the nurses at Hurley. They worked tirelessly to get him enough votes to win the national contest.
Now Isaiah is giving back to the people that helped him when he needed it most, and donating the $20,000 first place prize to the pediatric burn unit at Hurley.
