MIDLAND (WJRT) -
(06/05/14) - It's a fast-paced and sweaty trip through the wilderness. Midland's City Forest is getting ready to host its third annual Forest Frenzy adventure race.
"We are so pumped. We're going to have fabulous weather, and we're going to wet the course to make it extra muddy and extra dirty. It's going to be amazing," said Leslie Perry, Midland Community Center engagement director.
The 3.5 mile event continues to grow and gain attention.
"People are coming from all over the state of Michigan. It's incredible. We had about 800 last year. We hope to have that many or even more this year," Perry said.
This year's course is new and improved - and loaded with 18 obstacles.
"One of my favorites is the quick sand, which is a new feature this year, and everyone's favorite is the 100 plus foot long slip'n'slide at the end of the course," Perry said.
There are also plenty of water hazards to navigate around - and across.
"Sharks below it. If you fall in, you might not make it out of the City Forest," Perry said.
The race is timed, and everyone gets a medal - that's if they actually finish.
"I've been through this, and it's not for the faint of heart. I'm saying that anyone can't do this, because it's so much fun and we something for everyone, but you'll feel like a warrior at the end and like you've conquered the forest," Perry said.
If all this seems like too much to handle, there's also a kids course, which parents can tackle as well. A beer and food tent, with entertainment, is waiting at the end.
"Bottom line, you might need a shower at the end, but you'll feel amazing and it's definitely worth it, and it'll be a great time," Perry said.
The first running of the Forest Frenzy is Friday night - in the dark, with flash lights, of course.
Another Frenzy will be held Saturday morning, under the sun.
