Lawn care equipment, money donated to Flint man who fights blight

FLINT (WJRT) - (06/05/14) - A Flint man, who was trying to help out his struggling city, can finally get back to work.

We told you about Clarence Campbell over the weekend. Thieves stole the lawn care equipment he was using to fight blight in the city.

Several people have stepped forward to help get his little operation back up and running.

Clarence told us earlier this week that it felt like a sucker punch when he realized someone stole his lawnmowers.

After airing his story, the community stepped up in a big way.

Gebrael Management says they saw the story on and donated a brand new lawnmower and weed whacker, HealthPlus decided to donate $550 to Clarence and over the last several days, others have donated six used lawnmowers and one new mower.

Clarence is grateful for all the support.

He's been mowing overgrown lawns in the city for the last year or so.He says he wants to give back to the city he loves - and make Flint beautiful.

"We're in a position to help out, we might as well help them out with that. It makes the whole city in general look better," said Nadeem Gebrael, of Gebrael Management.

"He does exactly what we do. He fights blight and keep Genesee County beautiful," said Louis Hawkins, of HealthPlus of Michigan.

"I just wish the people who put so much time and energy into stealing and destroying would put the same energy into uplifting and encouraging even themselves," Campbell said.

Clarence plans to get back to mowing right away.
