SAGINAW (WJRT) -
(06/05/14) - Video of a Family Dollar store manager in Saginaw confronting women he says were stealing from his business on Sheridan went viral.
The manager, Gavyn Edlinger, lost his job, but says he's gotten a lot of support and he's pretty upbeat and excited for the future.
In the video, you can see him yelling at several women inside a car.
Edlinger says it started when two of them were in his store, on Sheridan, shop lifting. He called police and was told to get the car's licence plate number.
When he went outside, words were exchanged, and a smart phone camera captured the confrontation. The video last about two minutes.
You can see Edlinger's anger escalating, and at one point, he sprays a passenger with Febreze.
The video hit the Internet last Thursday. It has more than 1 million views on YouTube.
Dion Mason captured the altercation on his smart phone.
"I was trying not to laugh because it was hilarious," he said.
He says his camera is always ready.
"Just so happen to see crazy stuff," he said.
Mason isn't sure Edlinger handled the situation the best way.
"He went a little over the edge," he said.
Even Edlinger agrees he might have been too hot headed.
"I was enraged with adrenaline, but I did not realize that I looked that foolish," he said.
Since then, social media users have shared his story and even Tweeted Family Dollar, asking the company to re-hire Edlinger.
He says he is thankful for the outpouring of kindness, but he holds no grudge against the company.
"I thank them for the support and I think that's really, really, really nice. I stand behind Family Dollar's decision to terminate me and I think that it's just, my time is done with that company and I know that God closed that door because he has another one open," Edlinger said.
If faced with the same situation, Edlinger says he'd make the same choices.
"I have a really zero tolerance for ignorance," he said.
We called Family Dollar's corporate office, but they had no comment. Mason says he's been banned from ever going back to the store.
