Saginaw Co. working to take bite out of mosquito population

Posted: Updated:
SAGINAW COUNTY (WJRT) - (06/05/14) - Mosquitoes are giving Saginaw County a run for their money this year.

It's a bad season for them because all the rain and flooding this spring created a perfect mosquito breeding ground.

The Saginaw County Mosquito Abatement Commission is working overtime to get them under control.

"They're horrendous," said Lindsey Schulz, while sitting in the Bark Park with her two pooches.

Saginaw County crews are hitting the road at dusk, when adult mosquitoes come out to feast.

Crews are working Saturdays and doing an hour of overtime every day to get the job done.

They're spraying all around the county, attacking both adult mosquitoes and their larva.

They say you shouldn't worry about what they're spraying, but be cautious.

"If you hear our trucks, you might want to shut your windows," said Isaac Blackmon with Saginaw County Mosquito Abatement Commission.

Blackmon said you can do your part to keep them from sucking the fun out of your backyard barbecue this summer, such as getting rid of any standing water.

They also suggest wearing long sleeves and using mosquito spray with DEET to keep them away.
