FLINT (WJRT) -
(06/06/14) - A majority of Flint firefighters have voted in favor of a "no confidence" order against Chief David Cox.
According to union leader Mark Kovatch, union members started the vote on Thursday and wrapped it up Friday morning.
It's in response to frustrations over a budget proposal, by Flint's Emergency Manager Darnell Earley, that would give Cox more responsibility, while demoting other personnel and making additional fire department cuts as part of a money saving move.
Kovatch says their department is already stretched to the max and more cuts would create a greater safety concern.
Earley says he has full faith and confidence that the fire chief is doing his very best under these difficult circumstances to ensure the safety of firefighters and residents.
The union does say they're still willing to work with Chief Cox on a budget plan. A meeting is planned for Monday morning.
