FLINT TOWNSHIP (WJRT) -
(06/09/14) - Fourth grade students at Randels Elementary, in Flint Township, got to take their bike safety test Monday morning.
Students got to learn how to properly fit a bike helmet and learn rules of the road.
With summer vacation and the open road right around the corner, it's a good reminder for the students.
"We just want the kids to be aware that riding a bike is just as dangerous as driving a car. They need to watch for cars, cars can't stop for them. The safety of the helmets, it's to protect their head and it's not safe to ride without helmets. So it's just to try and help them become aware of their surroundings," said Michele Olney, of Carman-Ainsworth.
More than 50 bike helmets will be given away Monday, along with a dozen refurbished bicycles.
