SAGINAW COUNTY (WJRT) -
(06/10/14) - It might be a year before a Saginaw County road is reopened, after a portion of it eroded away into the Tittabawassee River.
River Road in Thomas Township has been down to one lane of traffic since April after erosion caused the east portion of the road to wash out.
The road is only open to southbound traffic, and motorists who want to go northbound have to drive a lengthy detour.
The Saginaw County Road Commission has been getting complaints, and now plan on installing a temporary traffic light to make it easier for residents in the area.
"There is about 3,000 vehicles a day that use that stretch of River Road and (a traffic light) will help minimize the delay for residents and through traffic," said Joe Wisniewski, of the Saginaw County Road Commission.
The traffic light would alternate between allowing northbound and then southbound traffic to use the portion of the road where it's blocked off.
