UNDATED (WJRT) - (06/16/14) - A new national list, just released, ranks the most stolen vehicles in the nation.

The list also outlines where your car is mostly likely to be stolen. It looks at SUV and crossover vehicles.

The top 5 makes and models for stolen cars are Ford Escape, Ford Edge, Ford Explorer, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Kia Sorento.

The top five states are California, Florida, Michigan, Texas and New York.

The information is coming from The National Insurance Crime Bureau, which released the report on Monday.

It examines thefts of SUV and crossover vehicles stolen between Jan. 1, 2010 and Dec. 31, 2013.

Michigan came in third in the top five states for SUV/Crossover thefts. The areas in Michigan that tracked the most thefts are Detroit, Warren and Livonia.

Genesee County Sheriff Robert Pickell says the biggest mistakes drivers make is leaving the keys in the car.
